Kyiv Kremlin Agree To Create Humanitarian Corridor Without Ceasefire

Ukraine – While there is no sight of a ceasefire between Kyiv and Kremlin, both have still been able to find a way out to save the lives of the common man. In a recent round of talks between the respective negotiators from both ends, an understanding has come forth that promises joint efforts to secure humanitarian corridors for evacuations and the supply of medicine and food to sites “with the most intensive fighting with a possibility of [a temporary] cease-fire in the areas where such evacuations will take place,” as confirmed by Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak.

Talks have happened in Western Ukraine where the attacks are at its peak. According to a formal interview by the Ukrainian PM Volodymyr Zelensky, he has called on the West to increase its military assistance after NATO members ruled out enforcing a no-fly zone for fear of igniting a direct war with nuclear-armed Russia. “If you do not have the power to close the skies, then give me planes!” Zelenskiy said.

It seems being on the NATO side might not be as good as a deal for Zelenskiy after all. As a small nation, the military has been putting up a brave front, with limited artillery and air power. There are countries like Australia and Britain who have promised more air power.

More than 1 million people have fled in just seven days, according to the United Nations. Ukraine’s border authority announced that nearly 14,000 Ukrainians, mostly men, had returned to the country on March 2, an increase of around 2,000 from the previous day. Additionally, Ukraine’s national emergency service has said more than 2,000 civilians have died, but that figure was impossible to confirm. Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzhaparova, addressing the UN Human Rights Council on March 3, said that Russian bombings of Ukrainian cities “clearly amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.”

Dzhaparova called for “accountability for war criminals spilling the blood of Ukrainian children.”
