The President of China, Xi Jinping, invited Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to attend the ceremony. The opening ceremony of the Olympics on 4 February will gather leaders of non-democracies.
The President of Poland Andrzej Duda will attend the ceremony. Duda is also expected to hold a meeting with Xi Jinping. World Health Organization head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will also attend the ceremony.
Zhao Weidong, the spokesperson for the Beijing Games, said, “I want to emphasise that the Olympics is a great spectacle for athletes and sports fans across the world.”
The opening ceremony will take place at the Bird’s Nest stadium, the same venue where Beijing’s 2008 Games began. Beijing becomes the first city to host both the Summer and Winter Games.
The focus of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics is on the current health situation enforced by the Covid-19 pandemic. The crowd will be smaller because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The organisers of the event decided last month to not sell tickets to the Olympic events to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Reportedly, around 3,000 athletes have arrived so far for the Games.
The fans can watch the Beijing Winter Games on beIn Sports. The opening ceremony will start at 4 pm UAE time. The Games will conclude on February 20.
No athletes are representing the UAE at Beijing Olympics this time. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) participated in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, which was held from 8 to 24 August 2008.
