Ethiopia is stuck at a juncture from where, if it needs to go forward, it will need good strong allies. It is time that the African nation considered neighboring powers rather than international help for its internal matters.
Even though the support it is seeking right now from Sudan and Egypt, should have been done way before regardless, the Prime Minister is considering all the options to help the drawing nation.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Thursday moves inches towards a possible allying with Egypt and Sudan over fears of hydroelectric dam Addis Ababa is building on the Nile. He assured the two nations that they will nowhere be on the losing end due to the construction of the dam.
Sudan, Egypt have been opposing Ethiopia’s attempt at building such a huge dam on the Nile as they were downstream nations which meant the dam would practically slow the flow of water. However, it needs to be established that Ethiopia was being adamant toward its approach and did not bother explaining the situation to the two nations.
But after what is happening in the nation where the Tigrayian community is inching closer towards the supreme facilities and in any second there can be an attack leading the government to lose control over the nation, the Prime Minister has become conscious of how he deals with neighboring nations.
The PM detailed the benefits of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in a two-page statement where he noted that the power it will generate will transform the lives of 60 million people who now live without electricity. Ethiopia surely maintains its stand on the dam construction but this time, the leader did opt for a softer tone to influence Sudan and Egypt tos side with the country in coming days against the merging forces of the indegenious communities.
