Afghanistan beat Pakistan for the first time in a T20 match
The Afghanistan cricket team defeated Pakistan in a Twenty20 match for the first time on Friday by six wickets as Pakistan was restricted to 92-9.
The Pakistani cricket team struggled on a low pitch at Sharjah Cricket Stadium against the Afghanistan cricket team. Afghans delivered a stunning blow to the Pakistani team.
Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat against the Afghans. Saim Ayub, a Pakistani cricketer who plays as an opening batsman, scored only 17 off 15 deliveries. It was the highest among the Pakistani team. Pakistani batters mostly fell to soft dismissals during the match. Mohammad Haris, a Pakistani International cricketer, also could not play well.

Fazal-Haq-Farooqui, an Afghan international cricketer, was the star performer of the team. The star player took two wickets for just 13 runs in four overs. Mujeeb ur Rehman, an Afghan cricketer, also took two wickets. He gave away only nine runs in four overs. Mohammad Nabi, a right-handed batsman and off-break bowler, also took two wickets during the match. Rashid Khan, captain of the Afghanistan national team in the T20I format, also took a wicket, showing remarkable bowling performances during the match. Afghan players Azmatullah Omarzai and Naveen ul Haq also took a wicket. Afghanistan restricted Pakistan to just 92/9.
Afghanistan easily chased the target of 93 runs during Friday’s match. The Afghanistan national team only lost four wickets in the match. Afghans chased down the total and won the match with 13 balls to spare.
After winning the match, Rashid Khan reportedly said, “Pleasure to win, as we’ve always lost against them by small margins. Wearing Afghanistan colours and leading the team in a win is a proud achievement.” Fans also expressed happiness on Twitter.
The three-match series between Pakistan and Afghanistan began in Sharjah on Friday. The second T20I is scheduled to take place in Sharjah on March 26.
