2022 Emmy Nomination, Squid Game’s legendary reign continues

The television show, Squid Game has just been honored with a nomination for an Emmy in the significant drama category in 2022, making it the first show produced in a language other than English to receive such a nomination.

The Korean survival drama, which is regarded as the show with the highest number of viewers in the history of Netflix, was nominated for a total of 14 Emmys in the year 2022.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series was nominated for Lee Jung-Jae, and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series was nominated for both Park Hae-soo and Oh Yeong-su. In addition, Jung Ho-Yeon is nominated as well for the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

“I would like to share my sincere gratitude. It is a tremendous honor to be nominated together with these brilliant actors. I would like to share this honor with the Squid Game fans around the world, who showed us endless love and support, and the Squid Game team, who worked very hard to make everything possible.” Lee Jung-Jae shared his thoughts with E! News.

Hwang Dong-hyuk, who is the showrunner, the writer, and the director of the series, also provided an emotional remark regarding the momentous occasion.

“I feel so happy and honored that Squid Game became the first non-English language series to be nominated for the Emmy Awards. I hope that Squid Game’s Emmy nominations will open up even more opportunities for the whole world to enjoy and appreciate each other’s content beyond the barriers of culture and language.” He said in his statement to E!.

He also received nominations for Outstanding Director for a Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, in addition to his nomination in the category for Drama Series.

This is not the first time that the mega-hit on Netflix has smashed records; this is just the most recent one. At the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards, the show was awarded the trophy for Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble, and it completely dominated the event.

In addition, Lee Jung-Jae and Jung Ho-Yeon both won awards for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Drama Series. Lee Jung-Jae won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series, and Jung Ho-Yeon won the award for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Drama Series.
