U.S.-China Trade War Update: New Tariffs & Google Under Investigation
Today China’s Ministry of Commerce announced that it is imposing new tariffs on U.S. products in response to recent U.S. trade measures. The counter-tariffs include a 15% tax on coal and liquefied natural gas and a 10% tariff on crude oil, agricultural machinery, and large vehicles.
In a statement, the ministry of China said the decision of US to increase tariffs “violates WTO rules” and will harm economic ties between China and the US.
This move by China came after the move of the U.S. government. Where they introduced a 10% tariff on Chinese goods. According to the reports, US president President Donald Trump is expected to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the coming days.
The State Administration of China is planning for Market Regulation. They have launched an antitrust investigation into Google, though officials did not directly link it to the tariffs. The probe was announced just minutes after tariffs were implemented by the US administration.
