Michelle Yeoh becomes the first Asian woman to win best actress Oscar
Michelle Yeoh Choo Kheng, a famous Malaysian actress, creates history as she becomes the first Asian person to win an Oscar, also known as Academy Award, for lead actress.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has awarded the Oscar for best actress to Michelle Yeoh for her performance in “Everything Everywhere All at Once”, in which she plays the role of Evelyn Wang, the Chinese immigrant owner of a laundromat.
On Sunday night, the Malaysian-born Yeoh received the prestigious award. She lauded the Oscar statuette. While receiving the award, she said on the stage, “For all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibilities.” She dedicated her first-ever Oscar to her mother and called her a “superhero.” She further said that the award was proof that dreams do come true.
Everything Everywhere All at Once
Everything Everywhere All at Once is a Sci-fi/Adventure film. It is directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. The film features Michelle Yeoh as Evelyn as well as Stephanie Hsu, Ke Huy Quan, Jenny Slate, Harry Shum Jr., James Hong, and Jamie Lee Curtis in supporting roles. The film is co-produced by Anthony and Joe Russo.
The 2022 American absurdist comedy-drama film revolves around Evelyn Wang, wherein she must connect with parallel universe versions of herself to prevent the destruction of the multiverse.
Michelle Yeoh
Michelle Yeoh rose to fame in the 1990s after starring in various Hong Kong action films. She performed her own stunts in Yes, Madam, Police Story 3: Supercop, and Holy Weapon. She became an international star after playing different roles in James Bond’s film Tomorrow Never Dies and in Ang Lee’s martial arts film Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon. She also starred in Memoirs of a Geisha and Crazy Rich Asians.
