Marc Fogel Returns to the U.S. After Russian Detention – Trump Welcomes Him Home
Former U.S. schoolteacher Marc Fogel has returned home after being released from a Russian prison. Donald Trump welcomed him back. Trump stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin got “not much” in return for the exchange.
US Presidnt Donald Trump shared this update on its official X profile:
Fogel who is 63 years old landed at Joint Base Andrews late Tuesday before heading to the White House. Trump also hinted that another detainee would be released on Wednesday but did not reveal their identity.
U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz confirmed Fogel’s release was part of a negotiated exchange with Russia. But Russian officials have not yet commented on the situation.
BBC reported, Trump told reporters the release was a “show of good faith” from the Russians and that it “could be a big important part” of ending Russia’s war in Ukraine.
“We were treated very nicely by Russia,” he said. “Actually, I hope that’s the beginning of a relationship where we can end that war and millions of people can stop being killed.”
