After Strengthening India-France Relations, PM Modi to Visit the U.S. Next
Today, Indian PM Narendra Modi visited the Mazargues Cemetery in Marseille, France along with French President Emmanuel Macron. Indian PM paid tribute to Indian soldiers who fought in World War I and World War II.
During this visit PM Modi also recalled Veer Savarkar’s daring escape attempt in Marseille in 1910. He thanked the people of Marseille and French activists who had opposed handing Savarkar over to the British.
During this visit to France, the Indian PM inaugurated the Indian Consulate in Marseille. He said this would strengthen India-France ties and make services easier for Indians living in France. The Indian community in Marseille gave him a warm welcome.
PM Modi and President Macron also visited the ITER nuclear project in Cadarache. India has invested ₹17,500 crore in this global energy initiative.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said PM Modi and President Macron traveled together in the French presidential aircraft—showing deep trust between the two leaders.
After ending this visit to France, PM Modi will now visit the U.S. for a two-day meeting with US President Trump. This will be the first meeting between Trump and Modi, after becoming the 47th president of America.
