Alexander Zverev makes a massive comeback by a Toronto win after a month off court
The Top seed German has made his comeback since his emotionally draining exit from Wimbledon and after several allegations thrown at him as his 52-shot rally win in Toronto. The hard court welcome boosts Zverev’s confidence after his shocking first round exit in London.
Zverev’s opening win in Toronto against Adam Walton where he bagged the win of the opening set 7-6(6), 6-4, the 28-year old registered a good start and came down to a 4-1 in a tie-breaker only nearing a breakout, when the Austrian did a double-fault on Zverev’s match point.
Recording his 499th win in his career, Zverev also did it in a 52-shot rally. “It was a very important moment, very important point for me,” Zverev said. “Lucky to get through in the first set and finishing it off in two.”

The 2017 Canadian champion will now play Italian Matteo Arnaldi, who defeated qualifier Tristan Schoolkate 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. The duo has faced once in the Lexus ATP Head2Head series and Zverev leads the faceoff with 1-0.
“Sometimes it’s about winning a match, not always playing your best,” said Zverev. “I know it wasn’t the prettiest match, for sure, but I haven’t played a match in four weeks. I took some time off, which I needed also for myself. I’m happy to be playing again. Tomorrow is another day and I hope I will be better tomorrow.”
