UAE signs international cooperation agreements with WEF
The UAE Government signed a number of partnerships and agreements with the World Economic Forum (WEF) on the second day of the annual gathering of global leaders and corporate executives in Davos, Switzerland. Dozens of deals were signed with the aim to enhance the framework of cooperation and joint efforts in strategic sectors and areas of global interest.
The agreements came under the limelight during a high-level meeting between Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, and Prof. Klaus Schwab, WEF Founder and President, on the sidelines of the forum’s annual meeting.
Mohammad Al Gergawi affirmed that the partnership with the WEF “strengthens the UAE’s position as a regional and global center for studying innovative government practices and developing mechanisms to support government work.” Meanwhile, Prof. Schwab called the Emirates a long-standing partner of the forum, announcing the collaboration with the Emirati Government to organise the Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils 2023 (AMGFC23), to be held in Dubai, on 16 – 17 October.
The AMGFC is the annual gathering of the WEF’s Network of Global Future Councils. It brings together over 600 members from government, business, academia, and civil society to better address global, regional, and geopolitical issues.
The forum has also selected the UAE Gender Balance Council as a knowledge partner to advance gender balance globally. The announcement – which underscores the Emirates’ influential role in promoting gender balance in the Arab world – was made at a meeting attended by Prof. Schwab and the UAE Gender Balance Council delegation headed by Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice President of the Council, on the sidelines of the annual meeting in Davos on Wednesday.
In other news, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres delivered a gloomy message on the second day of the annual meeting. The world is in a “sorry state” because of a number of “interlinked” challenges, such as climate change and the war in Ukraine, that are “piling up like cars in a chain-reaction crash,” he mentioned.
