South Korean President Declares Martial Law Amid Political Crisis
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law. He said there is a need for this law , because state is facing “anti-state forces”. In a late-night televised address President Yoon criticized opposition parties.
Yoon said, “We will eliminate anti-state forces and quickly restore normalcy” emphasizing the threat posed by alleged pro-North Korea elements within the country. He said that emergency law is necessary to protect liberal democracy in South Korea. This law is also important for stability in the nation.
This is a big moment in history of South Korea. The martial law was last used during crises like the Korean War and the April Revolution of 1960.
