Netanyahu Backs Trump’s Gaza Plan: A ‘Remarkable Idea’ for Rebuilding and Relocation

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking headlines after meeting with Donald Trump in the White House. He became the first minister to meet with Trump in the white house in this new term. Recently PM Netanyahu expressed his support for Donald Trump’s controversial plan to relocate Palestinians from Gaza temporarily. During an interview with Fox News, Netanyahu called this a “remarkable” step.  

“The actual idea of allowing Gazans who want to leave to leave—what’s wrong with that? They can leave, then come back, they can relocate and return. But you have to rebuild Gaza,” Netanyahu said. He added that the plan should be “seriously pursued, examined, and implemented” as it could “create a different future for everyone.”  

Trump’s proposal, unveiled just two weeks into his new term, aims to transform Gaza into what he called the “Riviera of the Middle East.” The plan suggests rebuilding the war-torn coastal strip, which has endured nearly 16 months of Israeli bombardment, resulting in over 47,000 Palestinian deaths, according to local reports.  

At a White House briefing, press secretary Karoline Leavitt described Trump’s plan as “historic” and “outside-the-box” thinking. She clarified that the U.S. does not intend to deploy troops to Gaza but did not rule out the possibility entirely. Leavitt also adjusted Trump’s earlier stance, stating that Gazans would only be “temporarily relocated” during the reconstruction process.  

Marco Rubio U.S. Secretary of State clarified that this relocation would be “interim” to allow for rebuilding and debris removal.  

But this proposal has faced widespread backlash. Critics argue it could violate international law, with human rights advocates calling it a form of “ethnic cleansing.” 

This plan appears to clash with U.S. public opinion, which largely opposes further military involvement in conflict zones after decades of interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
