Margot Robbie-starrer ‘Barbie’ is definitely coming to UAE cinemas
‘Barbie’, starring Margot Robbie in the titular role and Ryan Gosling as Ken, will release in the Emirates this month as the UAE Media Council has granted the Greta Gerwig-directed comedy the approval to be screened in licenced cinemas, the authority announced late Thursday evening.
The movie was cleared for screening after completing the necessary procedures in line with the standards of media content and the age classification, it added.
Just like the rest of the world, ‘Barbie’ was initially planned to be released on July 21. But early last month, cinema websites in the country changed the screening date to the end of August. No explanation was offered for the change.
Pink Fever Still Running Strong Worldwide
Following Thursday’s announcement, it wasn’t immediately clear whether the release date would be updated. As of Friday morning, the movie is still set to release on Vox Cinemas’ website on August 31. Nevertheless, the pink fever is still running strong worldwide.

The colour is taking over the world, with scores of people seen wearing pink to the theatres. Released the same day as Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’, ‘Barbie’ has broken multiple records, including becoming the highest-grossing film of 2023.
It also has had the highest-grossing opening weekend for a film directed by a woman. On its way to becoming the next billion-dollar flick, ‘Barbie’ has already raked in over $800 million at the international box office. It also has been a huge marketing success.
Climate Activist Uses Movie Lines To Deliver Message
Climate activist Greta Thunberg recently used an audio clip from the film to deliver a message. In the audio, Robbie’s Barbie is heard asking: “Do you guys ever think about dying?” Thunberg’s video features the words: “Do you guys ever think about the climate crisis?”
Last month, a video created by a social media agency in Dubai went viral on social media and has now been viewed over three million times on Instagram. The 3D video shows a giant Barbie walking out of her pink packaging and standing next to the world’s tallest structure, Burj Khalifa.
