Chinese Nationals Rescued from Myanmar Scam Centers Begin Their Journey Home via Thailand
In a major recent breakthrough, 50 Chinese nationals stuck in scam centers in Myanmar have been rescued and are returning home through Thailand. They are the first batch to be repatriated in a major move to bring back around 600 Chinese citizens from such situations.
These people were part of several criminal gangs trafficked to Southeast Asia, where they were made to labor in unlawful online activities such as scammers targeting individuals across the globe. The rescue mission included Thai military forces and the Chinese government is proactively working together with Thailand, Myanmar, and other nations to fight these unlawful activities.
The rescued people were brought into Thailand at Mae Sot, with armed soldiers and military trucks. They have taken flights arranged by the Chinese government to go home. This rescue follows that of Chinese actor Wang Xing, which generated a lot of publicity in China and put the focus on trafficking.
Myanmar’s junta has also arrested more than 1,500 individuals in the Myawaddy region under the operation. Around 7,000 individuals rescued from Myanmar scam centers are waiting to be transferred to Thailand.
