1 Year as UAE President: Revisiting Sheikh Mohamed’s efforts to deliver on promises from day one

It has been one year since HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan assumed office as the President of the United Arab Emirates and under his leadership, the country has reached remarkable milestones and supported causes that currently require our unflinching attention.

From achieving impressive feats in space missions to being a source of hope and trust in the region, the Emirates has migrated from strength to strength just as the president had promised it would in his first address to the country.

The World Reviews looks back at the leader’s prominent efforts to turn his promises into reality.

Tackling Disputes and Ending Bloodsheds

Regionally, Sheikh Mohamed has never hesitated to support the Arab world’s stability and effectively combat all challenges affecting its security. Internationally, His Highness has always taken the initiative to defuse disputes and achieve reconciliation.

The president’s growing focus on strengthening cooperation with brotherly Arab nations and standing by them in times of crisis is quite prominent. The ongoing Sudan crisis has been seeing Emirates’ neutral attention, urgent humanitarian supplies, and continuous push for talks.

Controlling Preventable Diseases

Sheikh Mohamed is hailed worldwide for bolstering the UAE and the world’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. His unwavering focus on the situation and meticulous efforts to find a solution helped Emirates find a quick transition to recovery and normalcy.

His Highness also delivered a number of essential supplies to countries in need. In the same context, he has also been making noteworthy donations towards campaigns aiming to control preventable diseases, including polio and lymphatic filariasis.

Giving Environmental Protection Great Care

Earlier this year, the president declared 2023 as “the Year of Sustainability in the UAE“, adding the country will continue to support action and innovation concerning sustainable practices. The announcement highlights the UAE’s deepening focus on environmental preservation.

The MidEast country will be hosting the upcoming COP28 climate talks in November. Although, quite unexpectedly, a number of environmentalists have raised concerns over an oil state hosting the annual conference, the UAE’s investments in clean practices shouldn’t be denied.

Hope in Youth

A strong believer in the power of youth, Sheikh Mohamed has taken several steps to engage with youngsters and put the potential of the UAE’s distinguished wealth of youth manpower to the right use.

During his time as the chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), the president established strong partnerships with a number of prestigious world-class educational institutions and think tanks.

He also established MBZMFG – Mohamed bin Zayed Majlis for Future Generations – that connects government officials, decision-makers, entrepreneurs, and experts with young participants, in an effort to carve out a better future for the country.
