U.S. Open 2025 Day 3 Recap and Day 4 Schedule Highlights
The 3rd day of the US Open 2025 at Flushing Meadows ended with exciting matches, dominant sets, and a jam-packed arena at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Coco Gauff captured the headlines in prime time with her match with Ajla Tomljanovic going up to the wire in three sets, and Tommy Paul managed to roar through his opponent, Elmer Müller of Denmark, in straight sets in the men’s. Other former winners included Jannik Sinner, Iga Swiatek, and Naomi Osaka, who all registered prompt wins. Day 4 has been eagerly anticipated, as superstar entertainers are scheduled to perform in all courts.
Day 3 Recap: Drama and Dominance
The biggest headline of the day was Coco Gauff, ranked No. 3, who overcame Ajla Tomljanovic in a thrilling three-setter of 6-4, 6-7(2), 7-5. The crowd at the Ashe Stadium exploded during the game as the spectacle was full of hard-hitting, long rallies, and nerves of steel by the American teenager.
On the men’s side, the crowd had a lot to cheer loudly in the game of Tommy Paul [14], who defeated Elmer Müller 6-3, 6-3, 6-1. Zverev, who in 2016 won gold in the doubles, then made it two wins in a row with an impressive showing against Alejandro Tabilo, 6-2, 7-6(4), 6-4.
Earlier in the day, the top seeds had an easy time in their first-round games. The world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, who was the champion of the U.S. Open last year, beat Vit Kopriva 3-1, 3-1, 3-2. No. 2 Iga Swiatek also appeared at the top of her game in her straight-sets victory, and Naomi Osaka [23] was as dominant as ever in her destruction of her opponent.
The rapid contests of Sinner and Świątek made the organizers work an extra match to Ashe 21st seed Linda Noskova against Dalma Galfi. The two players were taken by surprise, landing on the biggest stage of tennis.
Day 4 Preview: Djokovic, Alcaraz, Sabalenka Headline
Having finished the first round, Day 4 will mark the beginning of the second round, making it even more exciting. Novak Djokovic, who is seeking another piece of history in his quest to win his 23rd major in a row, takes the court at Arthur Ashe Stadium against Zachary Svajda. Djokovic has always won his second-round matches at the US Open 2025, which positions him as the clear favorite.
The second half of the day is opened by world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz, who will play against Italian Mattia Bellucci. The Spanish superstar is a favorite to face off against Jannik Sinner in another set of Slam finals. Aryna Sabalenka, as a world No. 1, will conclude the evening by using her power play against Veronika Kudermetova.
