Trump’s Outfit at Pope Francis’ Funeral Gets People Talking
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump attended Pope Francis’ funeral. They sat in the front row, along with more than 50 world leaders and other important guests.
There had been reports that Trump might be seated a few rows back because of Vatican rules. But in the end, he was given a front-row seat.
Many people noticed what Trump wore. Most leaders wore black, as a sign of mourning. Trump, however, wore a dark blue suit and a light blue tie. His choice stood out in a sea of black.
But Trump was not the only one who did not wear black. Other leaders, like Prince William from Britain, were also seen wearing blue suits.
The Vatican decided the seating based on the country’s name in French, listed alphabetically. So, Trump was seated between the leaders of Finland and Estonia, and close to French President Emmanuel Macron.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was also sitting in the front row, but a few seats away from Trump. Zelenskyy got a warm round of applause when he arrived. Trump and Zelenskyy met briefly before the funeral started.
During the Sign of Peace, when everyone was asked to shake hands, Trump shook hands with Macron and Finland’s President Alexander Stubb.
Former President Joe Biden, who is a Roman Catholic, was there too. He sat four rows behind Trump, wearing his signature aviator sunglasses.
Melania Trump is also Catholic. In fact, she was the first Catholic First Lady since Jacqueline Kennedy, as reported in 2017.
