Trump calls Putin ‘Absolutely CRAZY’ and calls the Russia- Ukraine conflict ‘Gross Incompetence
In a rare statement about the Russian President, Donald Trump calls Putin out for the latest attack on Ukraine. In his Truth Social account, the US president posted a condemnation following the largest Aerial attack on Ukraine.
Trump’s statement had since caused ripples with many wondering about the friction between the allies with Trump revealing his dislike for the two neighboring countries’ actions. Moscow in an unassumed and unsuspecting move, launched 367 drones into Ukraine, killing at least 12 and many injured overnight on Sunday.
This is Russia’s largest attack on Ukraine since the full-scale invasion from 2022. Triggering air sirens even at the early hours of Monday, many were injured by the incoming drones including a child in the Northern- Eastern city of Kharkhiv, Mayor Ihor Terekhov. While the Southern part of the country also faced attacks with two people injured at Zaporizhzhya, said the regional head Ivan Fedorov.
“Two Ukrainian drones heading towards the capital were destroyed by air defence units. No injuries were reported”, said Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, reports BBC.
Donald Trump took it to his Truth Social account hours after a media brief in New Jersey on Sunday, where he said, “I’ve known him a long time, always gotten along with him, but he’s sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don’t like it at all.”
The US President in the post said that he has had a good relationship with Putin over the years while calling his recent actions ‘needless’, killing people and soldiers while also criticising his move of launching missiles and drones “for no reason whatsoever”. He also said that Putin wanting “All of Ukraine, not just a piece of it” will be the “downfall of Russia”.
Trump looks to be done mincing with his words as he also commented about Zelensky saying, “President Zelenskyy is doing his Country no favors by talking the way he does. Everything out of his mouth causes problems”. Trump also stated that he doesn’t like it and the war must stop, also adding it would have never started if he was the President.
Zelensky also commented that Washington’s “silence” over the recent Russian attacks is encouraging Putin and urged “pressure” like tough sanctions on Moscow. Trump was questioned about his plans against Russia and whether he is considering pressuring Russia through sanctions to which Trump replied, “Absolutely”. While Trump has threatened sending sanctions to Russia multiple times in the past, is yet to restrict Putin’s actions.
Last week the Russia- Ukraine talks brokered by Trump apparently went “very well” as Trump posted in his Truth Social after a 2 hour long call. While Ukraine and its European allies have not paid heed to Putin’s talks for a “memorandum” or a “possible future peace”.
Putin’s delaying tactics and pushing common ground talks with the recent major talk since 2022 happened in Istanbul on 16 May 2025. While there are no talks of negotiations towards ceasefire or sight of Putin agreeing to end the war, Ukraine agreed for a 30- day Ceasefire which was breached by Russian counterparts.
