Starmer Calls Trump and Zelensky After White House Clash
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer talked by phone both with US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after their strong argument at the White House. Starmer takes action before his European meetings to help establish peace in Ukraine.
On Friday Trump and Zelensky argued explosively in public during their White House meeting when Trump insisted Ukraine should appreciate his aid while Zelensky risked global catastrophe. The scheduled press event ended early and Zelensky had to depart before completing the minerals deal. Zelensky told Fox News that Ukraine needs international support and that the relationship with the United States could still be restored.
The government representative from Downing Street stated Starmer continues to support Ukraine completely after his phone talks. Following his close talks with Trump at the Oval Office the prime minister began arranging direct diplomatic contact with other leaders.
European leaders especially Macron and Scholz and former prime minister Tusk show strong political support for Ukraine as Friedrich Merz says leaders should not mistake Russia for Ukraine in this conflict. When Ukrainian President Zelensky visits London on Saturday he will join other world leaders at a vital meeting to strengthen Western support for Ukraine as the conflict reaches three years.
