Savannah Airport Gears Up for 21,000 Arrivals for St. Patrick’s Day
Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport expects more travelers to arrive before St. Patrick’s Day celebrations take place in the city. Airport management expects 21,000 travelers during this holiday period which stands out as their busiest time of year.
Thursday will have the most arriving flights at 7,000 due to visitors traveling to Savannah to make the most of their four-day weekend. Several thousand people are projected to arrive every day to witness the famous annual parade which brings crowds of thousands to the city.
The airport starts offering TSA’s bigger screening lines for the very first time during the 2018 St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. The new security checkpoint installation with six lanes was created to handle more passengers faster during their airport journey. The airport staff requires all guests to show up two to three hours ahead of flights to complete their trip without problems.
The city government of Savannah has set up ready infrastructure to manage its record number of new guests. To handle more ride-sharing traffic the city established official pick-up and drop-off limits that go into effect on Friday. The city’s preparations will help traffic run smoother and protect the safety of people celebrating throughout Savannah.
The busiest day for departures falls on Tuesday since thousands of people will leave the festivities to return home. The authorities expect their new TSA lanes will support the surge and help visitors complete their travel activities without delays.
