Successful UAE Mediation: More 150 Prisoners Exchanged Between Russia and Ukraine
A big announcement has come from the Foreign Ministry of UAE. There has been an exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine. More than 150 prisoners swapped between the two countries and returned to their homes. 75 people from each side returned to their homes.
The Ministry highlighted that this successful mediation, the fourth one this year, was achieved because the UAE used its unique relationships with both sides to reach this agreement.
The UAE ministry praised Russia and Ukraine for their cooperation in the prisoner exchange.
The ministry also confirmed that the UAE is dedicated to ongoing efforts to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine. They emphasized the importance of diplomacy, dialogue, de-escalation, and reducing the humanitarian impacts of the crisis.
Apart from UAE the President of Ukraine also shared a tweet from its official Twitter handle and announced that 75 Ukrainian people have returned to Ukraine.
In his caption he added, “75 more of our people have returned to Ukraine. The Armed Forces, National Guard, border guards, and four civilians. All of them are already on their native land … I am grateful to the team responsible for the exchanges.”
The UAE’s mediation efforts since the beginning of this year have led to the completion of three prisoner-of-war exchanges between Russia and Ukraine.
This is 4th prisoner exchange of the year.
However, after the Russian attack on 24 February 2022, Ukraine turned into a battlefield. In the time that the UAE has been advocating for peace and resolution of the war, they have successfully brokered four Russia-Ukraine prisoner exchanges, bringing hope to the families.
The prisoner exchange enhances the UAE’s efforts to establish a peaceful solution in the region. They are committed to this. On Friday, the UAE Ambassador to Russia met Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov in Moscow. They discussed the relationship and how to promote it.
Let us remind you that the biggest exchange of prisoners took place between Russia and Ukraine in January 2024, when 400 prisoners returned to their places. A total of 248 prisoners returned to Russia and more than 230 to Ukraine.
