Putin emphasizes improving ties with Iranian president

According to a statement released by the Kremlin on November 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi spoke over the phone, and during their conversation, both leaders emphasized the importance of expanding their political, commercial, and economic cooperation.

There was no mention of the time that the phone call took place, nor was there any mention of the Iranian government providing weapons to Moscow. Since it invaded Ukraine on February 24, Russia has increased the amount of work it is doing to cultivate ties with Iran and other nations that are not in the West.

According to a statement released by the Kremlin, the two leaders “addressed a variety of important issues on the bilateral agenda, with the emphasis on further increasing cooperation in the political, commercial, and economic spheres, particularly the transport and logistics sector.”

On Wednesday, a high-ranking Russian official in charge of security met with officials of Iran in Tehran, and the two nations agreed to strengthen their ties.

The visit took place after claims were made by Ukraine and the West that Russia had employed Iranian drones to strike Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Ukraine and the West have blamed Russia for the attacks.

Iran claims that it delivered a limited number of drones to Russia before to the conflict. A month ago, Reuters reported that four Iranian officials, including two high-ranking officials and two diplomats, said that Iran has committed to supplying Russia with surface-to-surface missiles.
