Renato Reyes, the secretary general of Bayan, issued a statement in which he referred to the trip as “insensitive, needless, and reckless.”

“We are nearing Marcos’s first 100 days in office, and ever since he returned to Malacanang, it has been one celebration after another.” The lifestyle of constantly being on the road and traveling is incompatible with the role of President. “The people expect a concrete answer to the economic crisis, not a partying president,” Reyes stated on Sunday. “The partying president is not what the people want.”

The expedition takes place just a few days after the Philippines were devastated by Typhoon Karding, which was responsible for at least 12 fatalities, including the deaths of five rescue workers from Bulacan who were performing their duties.

A total of over P3 billion, or approximately $51 million, in agricultural losses were incurred as a result of the typhoon. Marcos assumed the role of head of the country’s Department of Agriculture on his own initiative.

Since the beginning of the week, reporters have been asking Malacaang about the trip, but officials have simply stated that they had “no information” about the trip in response to those questions.

Since he was elected president in May, Marcos has made multiple trips to Singapore, so this is not his first trip there since taking office. At the beginning of September, Marcos arrived in the city for a state visit via plane.
