With 10 grammys, four Emmys, and the title crowned by the fans as “Prince of Pop”, Justin Timberlake has been one of the most celebrated pop artists in America. Although he is known as America’s Golden boy, he has come under the scanner quite a few times recently.
Justin’s arrest due to Drunken Driving;
Justin Timberlake’s lawyer released a statement on Wednesday that he looks to vigorously defend Mr Timberlake against these allegations. Justin was charged with drunken driving by the NYPD on Tuesday as he blew off a signpost after failing to keep on the right side of the road. He was booked after he refused the breathalyser test.
When asked by the cops, Timberlake replied in a slow and slurred speech that he had one martini and was following his friends home. He was found in a state of red bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.
The pop star is to appear virtually at Sag Harbour Court on June 26.
Justin’s shot to fame;
Shining like a star in the 1990s and early 2000s Justin Timberlake parlayed his boy band NSYNC and his girlfriend Britney Spears who was then the biggest pop star to succeed into a highly acclaimed solo pop music career over the years and even went on to feature as an actor in Hollywood.
His early success can be credited to his performance and showcasing of talent in shoes like Star Search at the age of 11 in 1992. After that won a spot at Mouseketeer on a Disney Children show named The All New Mickey Mouse Club. His fellow cast members included his future girlfriend Britney Spears, his future boy band mate JC Chasez and a Cristina Aguilera.
In 1995, he along with 4 other members started the NSYNC boy band, comprising Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass and his former cast member JC Chasez. After releasing 2 albums, “No strings Attached” being the most sought after, the boy band ceased to exist in the year 2002 after a celebrity tour.
Relationship with Britney Spears;
As the Nysnc band established themselves, Justin went on to have a tremendous boost because of his then relationship with Pop star Britney Spears. The pair went public in 1999 elevating Timberlake upon his bandmates. The two remained together till November 2002 when he released his solo album Justified.
In 2003, Britney Spears interview with Diane Sawyer on Primetime put across Timberlake as the aggrieved one in the relationship as the interviewer went on to bring tears to Britney’s eyes as he put a barrage of questions on her about their breakup.
Janet Jackson and Timberlake’s Performance;
In 2004, Justin escaped criticism while performing with Janet Jackson during the Super Bowl halftime show. Due to a wardrobe malfunction, Janet’s breast was exposed live during the performance, tarnishing her reputation very badly. She was denied entry to the Grammy awards that Justin won for the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
Acting Debut and Grammys;
In 2010, Justin was casted in a role of Napster Founder Sean Parker in the film ‘The Social Network’. Before that, he released a lot of singles and solo albums in the 2006 -10 era.
In 2013 he won Grammy awards for Best Music Video and Best R&B song. This was due his 4th solo released album ‘the 20/20 experience’ and 2 singles namely Suit and Tie, and Pusher Love Girl.
His Downfall;
In 2019, cheating rumours circulated as Justin and his Palmer co-star Alisha Wainwright in New Orleans were seen in an image with folding hands. In a statement, Justin said “I apologise to my amazing wife and family for putting them through such an embarrassing situation, and I am being the best father and husband that can be.” in a post on Instagram.
In February 2021 and October 2023, Britney Spears’ documentary and memoir book casted a dark shadow on Timberlake as Spears spoke her side of the story during her relationship with him that led to his criticism and put him under the scanner.
