The G7 summit has officially started in Italy today. Italy’s PM Giorgia Meloni is welcoming the leaders of the world’s seven richest countries to the G7 summit.
All the leaders from different states like Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US are in Italy. They will discuss issues including the wars in Ukraine and Gaza. This year leaders from Africa and Indo-Pacific regions are also participating in this meeting.
The discussions of G7 group members will impact the global economic and trading policies.
This year’s summit is expected to agree on a plan to use frozen Russian assets to raise billions of dollars for Ukraine.
PM Meloni addressed the leaders and during that time she not only talked about Ukraine but there are several other agendas on the list.
In her opening remarks, she said to give value to what united us, dialogue with all, etc to boost the leaders.
Meloni says Puglia – a region on the southeast coast of Italy – was chosen to host the summit as it represents their desire to strengthen relationships with the global south. At the end of her speech, she thanked the world leaders for their visit to Itlay.
Other agendas of G7:
The war in Gaza is on the agenda of G7, leaders will talk about the need for an immediate ceasefire.
Apart from war, migration is another big issue in the world. It is becoming harsh from Africa to Europe.
Italy is asking other countries to help fund its Mattei Plan, which provides African nations with grants and loans to boost their economies. However, some people believe this might be a way for Italy to control migration.
Last year at the G7, Japan promoted a plan for international economic security.
