Influenza A virus subtype H3N2 has wreaked havoc in India. The country has witnessed a rise in influenza cases in recent months. The influenza virus is also known as the H3N2 virus. Every second person is experiencing cough and breathing issues in the month of March. Is the new H3N2 virus dangerous?

The H3N2 virus comes from the influenza A subtype. It can infect mammals and birds. The virus can also be mutated into several strains. According to Dr Sandeep Budhiraja, Group Medical Director, Max Healthcare & Senior Director, Institute of Internal Medicine, many people in India have complained of persistent cough or bouts of cough. What are the symptoms of the H3N2 Virus?

The symptoms of the H3N2 virus are similar to the Covid-19 virus. People experience persistent cough, congested nose, sore throat, frequent headaches, body aches, fever, chills, fatigue, diarrhoea, vomiting and breathing issues.

It is important to note that during the Covid-19 pandemic, many people died due to these symptoms. However, after a rapid rise in vaccination, Covid cases began to decline.

The H3N2 virus cannot cause many problems if people follow precautions. The precautions include getting vaccinated first. The precautions for the H3N2 virus are similar to Covid-19. People need to wash their hands regularly with soap, avoid close contact with people, they must wear masks, and they must cover their mouths while coughing or sneezing.

The treatment of the H3N2 virus includes taking more fluids and being hydrated. Regular over-the-counter medications can also be consumed. If the symptoms persist for a longer time, visit a doctor.

In India, most people with Covid-19 symptoms are being re-tested for the H3N2 virus. They are suffering due to breathing problems. It is advisable to get a flu shot this season. Common prevention techniques can be helpful.
