immigration to canada 2026 express entry pnp pr process
In preparing to immigrate to Canada, an applicant must know how to access one of the three main pathways to permanent residence called Express Entry, a Provincial Nominee Program, or Permanent Residence.
The Express Entry system is the fastest and most well-known method for obtaining permanent residence in Canada. Expression Entry is the way in which almost all permanent resident applicants are handled by Canada. This process is used for three (3) key programs:
1) Federal Skilled Worker;
2) Federal Skilled Trades;
3) Canadian Experience.
When you apply for Express Entry, you create an online profile in which you are assigned rankings based on criteria set out by the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Your ranking is based on age, education, work experience and language skills.
The Provincial Nominee Program allows Canada’s provinces to nominate foreign workers based on their respective local employment and economic needs. For instance, each province has a number of different immigration streams targeted at workers with different jobs / skills / experience. For example, Ontario, B.C. and Alberta each have numerous different streams that can be targeted based on an individual’s individual situation.
The PNP can be used in two (2) ways:
1) Linked to Express Entry (for example, nomination increases the applicant’s score by 600 points on the CRS system; therefore, the applicant almost automatically qualifies for Express Entry);
2) Apply to PNP directly (either via paper-based or electronic application).
If you develop the necessary strategy and perform adequate preparation, it remains extremely feasible to immigrate to Canada in 2026 through various routes.
Express Entry is the fastest route, especially for high CRS score candidates.
It varies by draw, but typically ranges between 470–520 for general draws.
It gives 600 additional CRS points, almost guaranteeing PR selection.
Express Entry takes around 6–8 months; PNP may take longer.
