Hyderabad Cricket Association President A Jagan Mohan Rao arrested for misappropriated funds
Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president A Jagan Mohan Rao and four other officers were allegedly misappropriating funds in Cricket balls, Air conditioning, sports apparels and plumbing and more. The allegations also involved association treasurer CJ Srinivas Rao and its Chief Executive Officer Sunil Kante, the Telangana CID has claimed.
Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) revealed the alleged misappropriation was at least to the tune of Rs 2.32 crore. According to the FIR, the alleged misappropriation took place on six counts, and includes “allotting” catering services and “buying” electrical material.
Telangana Cricket Association general secretary D Guruva Reddy filed a complaint in June 2025 that initiated the investigation. The FIR accused Jagan Mohan Rao and the others in the apex council of the HCA misappropriated Rs 1.03 crore by claiming that the amount was being spent on the purchase of cricket balls for the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) domestic season 2024-25.
“The number of balls purchased for this huge sum was just 1,340,” the FIR reads. In this purchase, Rao violated the tender procedure and did not maintain a stock register”, the FIR states.
Charges and accusations
Jagan Mohan Rao, Srinivas Rao and Sunil Kante were arrested on July 9 over the following charges:
- 465 (punishment for forgery)
- 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating)
- 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record)
- 403 (dishonest misappropriation of property)
- 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent)
- 420 (cheating) read with 34 (common intention)
