france voices support for india germany brazil japan as permanent unsc members
France has voiced its support for India, Germany, Brazil and Japan as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Deputy Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations, Nathalie Broadhurst, said on Friday, “France’s position is constant and well known. We want the Council to be more representative of today’s world.”

While addressing the UN General Assembly plenary meeting, she said, “We must indeed take into account the emergence of new powers. France supports the candidacy of Germany, Brazil, India and Japan as permanent members of the UNSC.”
The United Kingdom also voiced its support for India, Germany, Japan and Brazil to become permanent members of an expanded UN Security Council. The United Kingdom Ambassador to the United Nations, Barbara Woodward, said at the General Assembly debate on Security Council reform on Thursday, “The United Kingdom has called for the expansion of the Security Council. We support the creation of new permanent seats for India, Germany, Japan and Brazil.”
China, Russia, the United States, France and the United Kingdom are the permanent members of the UNSC. The United States, the United Kingdom, France and Russia have supported a permanent seat for India in the UN body. The G4 countries comprising Brazil, Germany, India, and Japan support each other’s bids for permanent seats on the UNSC.

While delivering India’s stance at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on equitable representation of the UNSC, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, on Thursday, said that the UN council needed equal representation. She also delivered the G4 Statement at the UNGA on equitable representation of the UNSC.
While speaking on behalf of the G4 nations, she highlighted the importance of making urgent reforms in the council. G4 nations met earlier in September. During the meeting, the leaders urged the UNSC to enhance the effectiveness, legitimacy and implementation of its decisions.
