‘Emirates of Good’: Yemenis are grateful for Emirati support to their country

In continuation of the government’s assistance to the Yemeni people, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a new plan to assist nations in recovering from crises. As part of this strategy, the UAE will undertake a recovery and rehabilitation project in Yemen with a budget of $325 million.

“The United Arab Emirates is striving to guarantee that help reaches the Yemeni people in an effort to prevent the Houthi terrorist group from taking control of the monies and looting them.”

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has suggested that the assistance will target the health care, renewable energy, and agriculture sectors, including a dam project that will be used for irrigation reasons.

The Year of Peace

This occurred during the participation of Minister of State Noura Al Kaabi in the donor conference hosted by the Kingdom of Sweden and the Swiss Confederation in cooperation with the United Nations in Geneva to mobilize support for the Yemeni people’s humanitarian response plan for this year, in the presence of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, and Swedish Minister of International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Jörgen Löfven.

Noura Al Kaabi stated that 2023 must be the year that peace is achieved in Yemen and that it must support all international efforts to end the conflict, meet the legitimate aspirations of the Yemeni people, and achieve peace and stability in Yemen and the region, particularly those of the UN special envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, Saudi Arabia, and the Sultanate of Oman.

She stated that since 2015, the UAE has supplied Yemen with a total of $6.6 billion in aid and a $300 million deposit to maintain its currency.

To continue this strategy, in addition to multilateral peace and development efforts in Yemen, the UAE will invest $325 million in recovery and rehabilitation projects in the health care, renewable energy, and agriculture sectors, including the construction of a major irrigation dam, in Yemen this year.

Yemeni activists say ‘Thank you, Emirates of Good’

On Twitter, Yemeni activists used the hashtag “Thank you, Emirates of Good” to show gratitude for the UAE’s support of their country.

Bint Aden, a Yemeni activist, stated that the UAE gives generators and fuel donations to power Aden’s capital 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. She said, “The UAE 120M plant’s presence at the port of Aden would hopefully assist to the stability of the current.”

“The arrival of the UAE’s 120MB solar power equipment in Aden saves millions of dollars per month and breaks the cycle of corruption involving leased power and diesel purchases,” said Yemeni activist Murad al-Shafei, who thanked the UAE for considering supporting Yemen and fighting those who oppose the Yemeni people.

He stated that the southern cities are denied of diesel fuel and sanctioned by the Houthi militia, and that the people of the south are suffering. But, the loyal ally took care of the situation by sending a floating station in the Gulf of Aden to illuminate the city.
