Diet Coke vs Coke Zero; Dietitian reveals which one is healthier…
Coca-Cola is the most popular soft drink worldwide. However, it’s also a beverage that is not recommended by doctors, dieticians, and other health experts. The main reason being the sugar content in the drink. One can of Coke has 39 grams of sugar which is more than what’s recommended to consume during an entire day.
Here is where products like diet coke and coke zero comes in. These drinks do not contain any calories or added sugar, instead artificial sweeteners are used to make these taste better.
Difference of Coke Zero & Diet Coke with usual Coke;
Coke Zero is flavoured with ginger lime and cherry. This is according to the official website of Coca Cola. The ingredients used to manufacture the beverage consist of carbonated water, caramel colour, aspartame, phosphoric acid, potassium benzoate, natural flavours, citric acid, and caffeine.
Diet Coke also has an almost similar ingredients list, the only difference being that Coke Zero uses aspartame and acesulfame potassium as sweetening agents while Diet Coke uses aspartame.
Along with that, flavours used in Coke Zero make it taste different than Diet Coke and Coke Zero is also lower in Caffeine.
Dietician’s Comments;
Dietician Andrea Mathis, MA, RDN, LD has said that both the beverages are made of artificial substances instead of sugar and therefore it does not make them healthier than Coke. “Artificial sweeteners do not make the beverage healthier. It just decreases the sugar and calorie content, which may be beneficial to some individuals who are advised to limit their sugar or carbohydrate intake”, she said.
