
Chicago Bears Legend Steve McMichael Dies at 67 After ALS Battle
Chicago Bears legend Steve McMichael known as Mongo died at 67 due to his struggles against ALS as revealed by Betsy Shepherd his family representative. McMichael joined the Pro Football Hall of Fame later this year while his performances for the Bears’ “46 defense made him unbeatable.
McMichael gained wide popularity throughout Chicago by working as a wrestler and on the radio alongside his coaching role. Because of his energetic charisma, McMichael received his nickname “Ming The Merciless” and “Mongo” which paid tribute to a film character. After receiving his ALS diagnosis in 2021, McMichael kept his fighting spirit from diagnosis until his death. In January 2024, the news arrived that confirmed his Hall of Fame status as a professional football player, which served as his career reward.
