Can G20 find amicable solutions for geopolitical issues?

Speaking at a Business 20 (B20) summit in New Delhi on Friday, India’s G20 summit negotiator Amitabh Kant said the country hopes to convince members of the group to find amicable solutions to geopolitical issues. He was responding to a question on the raging war in Ukraine.

“The war is not our creation,” Kant stressed. The brutal conflict has cast a shadow over international diplomacy since it began late in February 2022. India has taken a mostly neutral stance over the dispute, frequently reiterating the need for a diplomatic solution.

The country assumed the presidency of the G20 forum last December and is set to host the upcoming high-profile summit on September 9 and 10 in Delhi. The event is expected to see the host forge agreement among members on matters ranging from multilateral banks to crypto.

G20 Summit: What’s Open & What’s Closed?

Along with private offices and schools, Central and Delhi governments will also keep their offices closed from September 8 to 10 as representatives and leaders of the world’s largest economies will begin arriving for the summit from September 8.

In addition to US President Joe Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping and French President Emmanuel Macron, several other heads of state and representatives of nine “guest countries”, including Egypt and the UAE, will be coming to Delhi.

Traffic restrictions would be imposed in some areas of the capital to avoid jams and ensure the security of the visiting VVIPs. Movement of buses, cargo trucks and Delhi Metro could be regulated, too. A detailed advisory will be issued in the coming days.
