Breakthrough in Gaza Talks? Hamas Offers to Free Hostage, Return Remains
Hamas has announced they are ready to release Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander and other four other dual nationals. This development comes as indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel resume to secure a new ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
The first phase of the truce ended on March 1 without a clear path forward. However, fresh talks have now begun in Doha, Qatar, where mediators have presented a new proposal to both sides. Israel has also sent a team of negotiators to participate in the discussions.
Hamas confirmed receiving the proposal from “brotherly mediators” and stated that its response includes agreeing to release Alexander and the remains of others. It is unclear whether this move will help break the deadlock in negotiations.
During the initial six-week ceasefire, Hamas released 33 hostages, including eight who were deceased, in exchange for approximately 1,800 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
The world is closely watching these talks. Though the tensions are high but things are hinting that it can go to further prisoner exchanges which can bring peace in the region of middle east.
