Airport Hacks to Save Time & Avoid Stress
Airports do not need to be the hectic, bloody places when you think a little smarter and get to know some easy tips that will save you some time. Efficient packing, clever scheduling and the correct use of tech can significantly reduce queues, last minute panic and make your travel more comfortable. Thinking ahead (when it comes to how you pack your papers, which position you take in a queue) can make check-in, security and boarding much smoother. These easy airport hacks help you protect your time, energy, and mood before you even reach your destination.
Before You Leave for the Airport
Be there early, but not too early: target 2-3 hours before the flights international, 1.5-2 hours before the flights domestic, plus or minus rush airports or holidays. As soon as it becomes open, check in online, select a seat, and save or print out or screenshot your boarding pass so you do not rely on airport Wi-Fi. Stock up on necessities, passport, ID, cards, phone and boarding pass together in one easy to access pouch so that you will not be digging at each and every checkpoint. Low weight luggage packed in a well-structured cabin bag makes the security process and boarding faster.
Smart Security & Check-in Hacks
Wear security dresses by slipping off shoes and carrying very little jewels (or none at all) and not using belts and heavy accessories which can activate scanners. Store your liquids in a transparent bag on the top of your bag and put electronics (laptop, tablet, power bank) somewhere where you can access and remove them quickly in case of need. Select the correct queue: do not go to one with big groups of tourists or families who are having difficulties with their strollers and instead choose those who appear to be ready to travel. In case your airport has trusted-traveller or fast-track lanes, and you fly frequently, think of enrolling in it to save time every time.
At the Gate and Onboard
After passing through the security, go straight to your gate and make sure that the place has been found and there are recent changes before going to visit shops or restaurants. Not only should you charge your devices early (not only when you are about to board a plane), but you should also bring a small power bank: this way you will never be hooked to full-on power outlets. As you board, do not rush to join the queue unless there are restricted overhead-bin space, where you will be having a large carry-on bag. Carry a small seat pack (headphones, charger, book, medication) in an outside pocket to be able to get settled as fast as possible and not to block the aisle.
