$82 Million to Address Safety and Plan Union Station’s $9 Billion Overhaul
U.S. Department of Transportation and the Office of Mayor has announced $82 million funding to improve Union Station in Washington, D.C. This money will be used for immediate repairs and long-term planning.
According to the sources, nearly $59 million will go toward fixing safety and operational issues at the station. These short-term improvements are necessary as Union Station continues to serve as a busy transportation hub while larger plans are developed. The remaining $24 million is for planning and design work for a future $9 billion redevelopment project. This funding will cover early steps like utility upgrades and geotechnical studies.
