Zelensky and Putin to have CEASEFIRE talks in Turkey on Thursday
Ukrainian Leader Volodymyr Zelensky has taken upon the suggestion brokered by the US President on agreeing to a meeting with Russian Leader Vladimir Putin about the ongoing war. Turkey will be the neutral point of talk as both Zelensky and Putin have agreed to meet on Thursday with both the nations putting forth different proposals that are backed by their respective allies.
Donald Trump, the US President on his Truth social page, posted that Putin is ready to put an end to the “BLOODBATH” while not necessarily ready for a ceasefire and rather wants to have a talk with Zelensky on Thursday, in Turkey.
Volodymyr Zelensky also tweeted in response after having a gathering with his European allies on Saturday said, “We await a full and lasting ceasefire, starting from tomorrow (Monday), to provide the necessary basis for diplomacy. There is no point in prolonging the killings.” He also agreed for the meeting in Turkey after the European country leaders gave Putin an ultimatum that is yet to receive a reaction or comment from the Russian President.
Starting tomorrow, we await a ceasefire — this proposal is on the table. A full and unconditional ceasefire, one that lasts long enough to provide a necessary foundation for diplomacy, could significantly bring peace closer. Zelensky and some of the European country leaders – UK’s Prime Minister Keir Satrmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Polish President Donald Tusk gathered in Kyiv for a discussion on Trump’s offer. The European leaders have unitedly asked Moscow to agree for a Ceasefire within Monday before further negotiations and on rejection have threatened to unleash ‘massive’ sanctions.
While Trump’s brokering and mediating clearly read Putin is not looking for ‘Ceasefire’, Putin held a late night meeting and gave a counter proposal, sticking to having a meeting on Thursday in Turkey. Will Russia agree to the Ceasefire first, Talks later?
While Kyiv has its backing from Europe, Moscow will also have support from the US as Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State will be present in Turkey, as an informal gathering of NATO with the prime focus on stopping the Russia – Ukraine War.
Putin reportedly had discussed with Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey about hosting the meeting with the latter sharing full support for the Russian Proposal. Erdogan also had a call with President Macron and said, a “historic turning point” is planned to discuss the end of the war, reports India TV.
Meanwhile Moscow launched hundreds of drones and attacked the Ukraine Territory from six directions on Sunday, ending their self-proclaimed pause of three days with both the countries breaching the 8- 10 May truce proposed by Russia.
