Ukrainian first lady requests additional weapons against Russia’s ‘Hunger Games’

As Ukraine fights a five-month Russian invasion, first lady Olena Zelenska pleaded with US senators on Tuesday (Jul 20) for greater assistance, saying weapons could help ensure a “shared tremendous victory.”

“When a conflict decimates our planet, we are all left with shattered lives. In Ukraine, tens of thousands of these universes have been wiped out,” It was a 15-minute statement to members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate that she delivered through a translator.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s wife, Maria Zelenska, presented films of children she said had been injured or died, including a 3-year-old boy in Germany who is learning how to use prosthetics.

“It’s hard to imagine how many youngsters like him exist in Ukraine. How many more families like this may be ruined by war? “Hunger Games” are being played out in Russia right now,” She was alluding to a genre of literature and film in which characters are on the prowl for their prey.

According to Zelenska: “I am asking for weapons, not weapons to wage war on another country, but weapons that would be utilized in the defense of one’s own house and the right to wake up alive in that home.”

“Fortunately, it’s right here in the nation’s capital. Our shared victory in the cause of life, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness will be achieved if you join us in stopping this terror against Ukrainians,” That’s what she remarked.

According to the Biden administration, the United States has provided Ukraine with $8 billion in security support since the start of the war, including US$2.2 billion in the last month. Members of Congress responded enthusiastically, saying they would be willing to approve additional funding.

“No, they’re not asking for American troops. Requesting arms from the United States We should put together a new aid package for 2023 that includes modern weapons and economic aid so that we can continue our struggle into the year 2023,” After her address, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham made the following statement.

“In front of our eyes, we witnessed the slaughter of innocent individuals. Why? Because they come from Ukraine. That is the definition of genocide. World War II demonstrated this. Therefore, we must put an end to this,” According to Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal.

His wife’s discussions in Washington had been described by Ukraine’s president as having the potential to bring about “major outcomes.” President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden visited with her on Tuesday at the White House.

According to Russian officials, their actions in Ukraine are part of an effort to secure their own security. Russia’s opposition to Moscow has been spearheaded by Zelenskiy.
