The discounted ticket program was introduced by Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the city administration as part of New York’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Under the agreement, 1,000 tickets will be sold for just $50 each for selected matches at MetLife Stadium, one of the tournament’s key venues. The city says the goal is to ensure local residents are not completely priced out of one of the world’s biggest sporting events. With standard FIFA World Cup ticket prices expected to rise sharply because of global demand, the lottery is being viewed as an important affordability initiative.
The REGNYCTIX lottery is open only to New York City residents living in the five boroughs.
Applicants must also: Be at least 15 years old on match day, Submit only one entry, Be able to provide proof of NYC residency if selected, Accepted documents may include a government-issued ID, utility bill, lease agreement, or pay stub showing a New York City address. Officials have warned that duplicate applications may be removed from the lottery system.
The application period will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 25, 2026. Residents will have until 5:00 p.m. to make their submissions through the official website for REGNYCTIX on Saturday, May 30, 2026. There is no first-come-first-serve basis for this competition; therefore, being early does not mean an applicant has higher chances of winning.
