His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister, and the Minister Of Defence of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as well as the ruler of Dubai, has launched the “1 Billion Meals Endowment” initiative in order to remove hunger and provide sustainable food aid to hundreds of millions of people.
The “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign is aimed at establishing a food endowment fund in order to achieve sustainable food aid by mobilising local, regional and international efforts. The campaign would help to implement sustainable programmes globally to eradicate hunger and achieve food security.
According to WAM, the UAE Prime Minister said, “As it has become a yearly Ramadan tradition, this year we launch the “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign with the aim of sustainably providing hundreds of millions of meals to people in need.”
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum revealed that around 828 million people suffer from hunger across the world. He noted that as Muslims, it is their duty to help people in need, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. The Dubai ruler further said, “Even a small but sustainable contribution makes a bigger difference than a one-time large contribution.”
The campaign is a reflection of the UAE’s deeply embedded moral values to help people in need across the world. The UAE’s belief in humanity coincides with the holy month of Ramadan. The UAE has always provided humanitarian aid and food aid to people in need.
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), a philanthropic foundation in the UAE, has launched various initiatives to help underprivileged people across the world. Recently, it launched the ‘1 Billion Meals’ initiative to help underprivileged people and undernourished in Bangladesh. The campaign aims to deliver 5.4 million meals to Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh.
The MBRGI, the largest regional foundation in terms of the number of institutional initiatives, has provided aid to around 50 countries during the crisis. It also received the ‘Shorty Impact Award for Best Real-Time Response’ award for its rapid response to the crisis globally.
The “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign is also implemented under the umbrella of the MBRGI. The campaign is an expansion of the UAE’s previous Ramadan campaigns “1 Billion Meals”, “100 Million Meals” and “10 Million Meals”.
The ‘1 Billion Meals Endowment’ campaign would help the victims of conflicts, natural disasters and crises around the world. Assistance would directly be transferred to needy people globally.
Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Secretary-General of the MBRGI, said that the campaign is a reflection of the UAE’s moral values to help the needy, be one of the first responders to the crisis, and be most impactful in times of crises.
