One of the most decorated and beloved fantasy franchises -be it in books or movies is the Harry Potter World. The magical world of witches and wizards is full of treasured characters, mind blowing twists and perfectly connecting emotions that cling on to the fans around the world. Like Defence Against the Dark Arts Class and Professor Snape, the bond between the Potterheads and the Harry Potter world of knowledge is irreplaceable.
Here’s food for your thoughts if you know you are a well versed muggle who can ace any Harry Potter quiz out there or know everything about the Wizarding world. Do you know that magical plants like ‘toadflax’ or ‘mugwort’ exist in the muggle world as real Flora and not specific to the wizarding world? The Hogwarts School Motto is ‘Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus’?!
JK Rowling who studied Classical languages and Mythology has just like any other spell or names also set the motto of the Hogwarts School as ‘Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus’ which might sound all high and stiff while the literal translation stands far apart from the magic and more into practicality – ‘Never tickle a sleeping dragon’ is the translation.
We almost got the mischievous ‘Peeves’ in the Movies
Beloved Hogwarts Ghost who is known for his Mischief inside and through the walls of Hogwarts is one of the beloved characters in the book. Although we could see many other ghosts like the Nearly Headless Nick, ‘Peeves’ was cut off from the movies after a British actor Rik Mayall filmed for weeks but was wiped off by Christopher Colombus stating not liking the character’s look onscreen.
We almost lost our beloved Mr. Weasley!
JK Rowling is named cruel for killing many of the fan favorites throughout the films and books. There is no need for Dobby to be killed! Yet the author could have easily ripped us all off one of the best dads in all of the wizarding world – Arthur Weasley in ‘The Order of the Phoenix’. A last minute mind change by the author left out the head of the Weasley clan alive.
Surprisingly Hermione isn’t good at Everything!
Even Though Hermione is the brightest of the trio and is a stand out student excelling at times, she was not good at everything. She even was particularly called as an “insufferable know it all” by Professor Snape. She was also visibly not good at Wizard’s Chess or at Divination. She also smelled a third smell in the love potion that was not revealed – the smell of Ron’s hair! How distinctively lovely.
Fred and George are born on 1 April – April Fool’s Day! Makes Sense right?
‘I Solemnly Swear that they were up to no good!’ The uplifting characters who brought in every sense of mischief and rebellion into the story and breathed normalcy of a school environment are the naughty Weasley twins – Fred and George. They were born on 1 April aka April Fool’s Day that adds up to reflect their characterisation and the multiple lighthearted pranks they pulled.
Ginny picked out the iconic group name – Dumbledore’s Army
During Harry’s fifth year when the infamous Umbridge is sent by the Ministry of Magic and she refuses to teach proper lessons, Harry sets out secret classes to practice the spells. It was Ginny Weasley who came up with the iconic name ‘Dumbledore’s Army’ for the group, which is far better than the suggested Defence Association. A nightmare team that became a threat to the Ministry later.
