Egypt: Mostafa Moussa calls for El-Sisi to run for another term
Mostafa Moussa, who was a candidate in the 2018 Egyptian presidential election, has called for Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil el-Sisi, the sixth and current president of Egypt, to run for another term.
The El-Ghad Party, an active political party in Egypt headed by Mostafa Moussa, backed the potential candidacy of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in the upcoming election.
El-Ghad announced on Sunday that the party decided to “support President Sisi’s candidacy and to participate in the campaign backing him.”
Political parties support El-Sisi
Moussa Mostafa Moussa, who became the leader of El-Ghad Party in 2005, called on all political parties to support Sisi’s candidacy in the upcoming election.
The El-Ghad Party highlighted the importance of “protecting the supreme national interests of the country.” The party called on all national forces to preserve national unity.
Earlier, various political parties announced support for President Sisi’s potential candidacy in the upcoming election. The parties include Mostaqbal Watan, also known as the Future of the Nation Party; Congress Party, a secularist political party in Egypt; Free Egyptians Party, an Egyptian liberal party; and the Homat Watan Party, an Islamist political party in Egypt. These political parties have been supportive of Sisi’s policies.
Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil el-Sisi has served as the President of Egypt since 2014. He has been serving a six-year term since 2018 because constitutional amendments in 2019 extended the presidential term to six years instead of four years. He has the right to run for a third six-year term until 2030.
Other key political leaders have also announced plans to run for elections. Abdel-Sanad Yamama, Al-Wafd Party leader and Hazem Oman, head of the People’s Republican Party, have announced plans to run in the upcoming presidential election.
Presidential elections are scheduled to be held in Egypt in February 2024.
