Anaya Bangar on Transitioning, Cricket, and the Challenges of Being a Trans Athlete

Anaya Bangar who is 23-year-old daughter of former Indian cricketer and coach Sanjay Bangar recently came out as a transwoman. She was formerly known as Aryan she completed hormone replacement therapy and gender-affirming surgery to embrace her true self. Through multiple posts on her Instagram Anaya shared her experience the journey of self-discovery and her challenges as a transwoman in sports.

Anaya like her father has a deep passion for cricket. However, her transition has brought unique challenges in pursuing her career in the sport. In one post, she wrote honestly, “It sucks being a trans athlete,” expressing the difficulties she faces in a field not yet fully open to transgender athletes.

In a recent Instagram reel, Anaya shared more about her journey. “Losing strength but gaining happiness. Body changing, dysphoria easing… still a long way to go, but each step feels more like me,” she wrote. The post highlighted her emotional and physical changes over the last eleven months, revealing her struggle but also her growing happiness and comfort in her own skin.

Her posts have gained significant attention on social media, sparking conversations about transgender athletes and acceptance in sports. Many people have shared their thoughts and reactions, supporting Anaya’s bravery and journey.
