Trump Administration Drops Numbers Of Exemptions To Tariff Requests

Trump administration is now denying any more tariff exemption requests on Chinese imports, something that continues to cripple the American market.

The approval rates have plunged to 3 percent.  This has been reported after the third round of levies from 35% in the first two. There is a steep decrease seen here.

In the last few months, almost 4500 companies are known to have requested for exemptions. Many companies are known to have made more than one exemption and as of now, more than 8700 such requests had been made. This shows the level of loss and dependency that American businesses have on Chinese products.

Since September, the Trump administration has kept a strict control over the number of exemptions they have approved. Media reports confirm that it has kept a strict control on the use of Chinese goods and approved merely 3%of all the exclusion requests under the $200 billion tranche of tariffs of Chinese goods.

Somewhere inspired by the Indian example to become domestically more independent, the administration has stated a viable reason for its pressure tactic. For one, it insists the American businesses depend more on their own domestic product than that of Chinese.See more News of America Today

Mike Pompeo expects to better relations with Ukraine amid Trump’s impeachment trial

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will land in Kyiv, where he proposes to dismiss opinions that there are policy differences between President Donald Trump, the State Department, Congress, and the intelligence with regards to Ukraine. The trip comes after a fiery interview with NPR—in which Pompeo was quoted as stating, “Do you think Americans bother about Ukraine?”— and amid Trump’s impeachment hearing in the Senate, which straightforwardly includes Ukraine.

Pompeo’s visit—which was postponed amid increased strains with Iran and his strategy tone is presumed to be hard. He will probably accentuate US support for Ukraine in its combat with Russian separatists in the east, FP revealed.

Pompeo is programmed to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as the Defense Minister Andriy Zagorodnyuk and Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko, on Friday.

Before traveling to Kyiv today, the secretary of state was reserved for meeting British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Pompeo will probably ask Johnson on the issue of security and the Chinese firm Huawei. Pompeo will furthermore visit Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Uzbekistan following Ukraine.

On Friday, Pompeo is scheduled to meet President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, as he looks forward to putting a definite turn on relations between the two nations amid Donald Trump’s Impeachment trial is in progress.

It is in Kyiv where the spotlight will concentrate most solidly on Pompeo and mostly on his endeavors to fix the harm done in the course of recent years, The Guardian reported.

The talks are probably going to cover Ukraine’s contention with Russia, bilateral relations, gas, and the United State’s sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, trade possibilities in Ukraine.See more news about News of America Today

America Sanctions and Waives Off Together

America Sanctions and Waives Off Together

The United States has yet again imposed sanctions on Iran’s nuclear entity as per the Treasury Department. However, it has been stated that the US will not interfere in Russian, Chinese and European firms continuing to work at Iranian nuclear sites. This might make it harder for that country to develop a nuclear weapon.

Further, the US will now issue waivers to sanctions that that initially barred non-US firms from dealing with the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran. According to the same sources, the waivers’ renewal will allow nonproliferation work to continue for 60 days. This will be done at the Arak heavy-water research reactor, the Bushehr nuclear power plant, the Tehran Research Reactor and other nuclear cooperation initiatives.

Waivers have had to be given in order to prevent non-proliferation, a decision that has come after a debate between the US Treasury and State Department. In November 2019, Washington had terminated the sanctions waiver related to Iran’s Fordow nuclear plant after Tehran resumed uranium enrichment at the underground site. The US retracted itself from the 2015 Nuclear Deal completely misbalancing world economy. Under the 2015 deal that was a great peace keeping effort made by Barac Obama, it was joint agreement between Iran and six world powers. These include Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States. Under the agreement, Tehran promised to limit its nuclear program in return for the lifting of economic sanctions that had crippled its economy. However, Trump’s retracement has left the rest of the partners in an extremely tough spot.

Trump Expands List Of Nations For Travel Ban

Trump Expands List Of Nations For Travel Ban

Donald Trump is coming out with policies which seem to indicate that he wants to get back at the Muslim community worldwide. Speaking at the World Summit in Davos recently, he said that he had plans of extending his travel ban to bar people from several additional countries.

His redone list is an indication that he is going to come down heavily on people who still look forward to the American dream. This is all in preparation towards his election campaign where he has promised to curb illegal immigration into the United States.

He has already been coming down heavy on Mexico and he meant to concretize that by erecting a physical wall at the Mexico-US border. The construction of the wall is under a court stay. The travel ban policy, public polls show, is indicating a huge fan following amongst Republican voters. This goes well in favour of the Republican President.

Going against the spirit of multiculturalism, the travel ban had already been challenged in federal court. It has since then gone through three iterations after Trump took office in 2016 but it only received Presidential proclamation in September 2017. The current version requires the DHS to review the visa restrictions every 180 days and permits the addition or removal of countries. The ban was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in June 2018 and includes a periodic review of whether countries should be added or taken off the list.

While the Trump administration has not sighted any particular reasons as to why some countries are being included, political analysts believe that this is a simple way to withhold right to immigration. Some of the countries listed include Belarus, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Nigeria, Sudan and Tanzania, a list which was first spotted by Politico.

Some of these nations are in focus due to gross violation of human rights and America’s stance to impose travel bans could mean that movement of suffering civilians into US could be a closed chapter all together. It is a hard stand for a leader of a nation, but it might be the best one to keep violence and unrest at bay.

Trump impeachment, Democrats demand Bolton to testify

Democrats in US Congress demand that former National Security Advisor John Bolton testify in the trial for impeachment of President Donald Trump.

The call arrived after the New York Times revealed how Bolton in the draft of his book wrote that Trump told him he wanted to freeze aid to Ukraine until he started investigating Biden.

The prosecution in the trial, led by Adam Schiff, defined the disclosure as “explosive”, asking to summon John Bolton. US president Donald Trump, doesn’t seems really concerned because he knows that the impeachment to pass need the vote of at least 4 Republican senators.

Republicans May Face Tough Battle To Be Re-elected

It now seems that the fate of the impeachment can have an adverse affect on the future of the senators involved in the trial process too. According to Republican strategist James Bowers, the impeachment will play a major role in campaign ads for years.

There is already mounting pressure on the senators who are trying to juggle between the impeachment trial and their campaign dates. Of these, a handful of senators are facing tough re-election battles this year.

Political analysts believe that American voting pattern could be affected by the way the same senators acquit or convict Trump, or even to call witnesses in the trial. There is a mixed opinion around Trump’s impeachment trial. Voting polls have been divided over whether he should really be impeached or not.

Democrats need to pick up four seats from Republicans to win a majority in the Nov. 3 election, in which Trump also will be on the ballot.

Democrats are already pushing for Trump not to be given rights to cast a vote or campaign for the forthcoming elections.

According to three nonpartisan election services, between five and seven incumbent Senate Republicans are at risk of losing their seats, as do two incumbent Democrats. This information has been shared by The Cook Political Report, Inside Elections and Sabato’s Crystal Ball.

Because Trump was impeached by a Democratic dominated House of Representatives, the battle becomes tougher for the Republicans. Further, it has been noted that embattled Republicans like Corey Gardner of Colorado and Martha McSally of Arizona might face a voter backlash. This could happen if they vote to wrap up the trial quickly. This is something that the Republican leaders definitely want. They would like to avoid calling for more evidence and witnesses, which could potentially upend the proceeding.
