Severance Season 2, Episode 6: Twists, Tensions, and Unexpected Encounters
Severance Season 2 is back with yet another episode, and though the slow, suspenseful narrative has us on the edge of our seats, it also frustrates us with mysteries. Episode 6 was perhaps not chock-full of jaw-dropping surprises, but it’s obvious that something big is around the corner. Let’s break down the pivotal moments from this episode.
The episode starts with Mark discussing his visions of Gemma with Reghabi. He believes she is not herself, but Reghabi tells him that she is still present and can be rescued. On Lumon’s cut-off floor, meanwhile, Dylan G. informs Mark and Helly that there is a hidden elevator in the Break Room.
In the meantime, Milchick is in distress after a poor performance evaluation. He telephones Miss Huang and requests her to guard the Severed Floor while he works out his frustration. Milchick subsequently barricades himself in a storage room and repetitively clips pieces of paper together.
His critique informs him that he uses too many elaborate words. Distraught, he works in front of the mirror to simplify his speech, attempting to undo what he has done wrong. His desperation to please his superiors gives his character a creeping sense of unease.
Burt had asked Irving to dinner when they were speaking last time, and Irving agreed to go this time. He goes to Burt’s house and communicates with Burt’s husband, Fields. The tension between the two is quite noticeable at the beginning, but then they start to carry on quite well. A little later, Fields drinks a little bit more liquor and then he gets the guts to ask Irving if the two had ever been dating. Despite his curiosity, Fields tells Irving that he would be alright with it if they were. After that, Burt takes Fields to bed and requests that Irving come back. In the meantime, Drummond comes to Irving’s apartment and unexpectedly stumbles upon his investigation of Lumon. And to our walking eyes, Dylan’s Outie’s wife comes across his Innie, talks to him quite friendly, and even kisses him. However, when Dylan’s Outie asks her about the encounter, she lies to him by saying that he canceled it.
Subsequently, Mark informs Reghabi that he is prepared to accelerate his return. Prior to doing so, however, Mark attends a Chinese restaurant, where he suddenly finds himself face-to-face with Helena Eagan. She engages him in conversation, flirting and mentioning the Overtime Contingency Protocol.
She also sympathizes with Mark’s deceased wife, but Mark tells her off, insisting his wife’s name is Gemma before he leaves. He goes back home and instructs Reghabi to go ahead with the recalibration.
Reghabi does minor surgery on the hole in Mark’s skull from his initial severance procedure. The side effects take effect immediately, making Mark extremely uncomfortable. There is a knock at the door at that moment—it is Devon, Mark’s sister. Mark knows he has to respond because his car is parked outside. He lets her in, but while they talk, the anesthesia wears off and becomes too much, and Mark falls. The scene leaves us on this cliffhanger, waiting to see what happens next.
Reception 2, Chapter 6 of the Season Season makes the slow and thrilling plot the whole show’s main focus again. The episode is not a big explosive teaser but it points to something tremendous about to happen. Through Mark’s reprogramming, and Milchick’s emotional and, tangled floor elevator, the story becomes more and more thrilling. Most probably, the next episodes will introduce us to the game-changer moments, which will excite us to wait for the outcome!
