Robert Luketic director of ‘Legally Blonde’ to direct Thriller ‘Resurface’
From classic ‘Woman Coded’ comedies to Romantic Dramas, Robert Luketic, the director of ‘Legally Blonde’, ‘Monster in Law’ and ‘The Ugly Truth’ has drifted away to making a thriller titled ‘Resurface’, reports a Variety Exclusive.
Forte Corp Pictures’ are backing the survival thriller that is set in the Mariana Trench with the screenplay penned by Pete Bridges. “Resurface chronicles the desperate race against time after an underwater earthquake devastates a deep-sea research mission at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. Two stranded survivors must ascend 35,000 feet to the surface before their life support expires.”, reads the brief of the movie plot.
The Australia based production house has already produced some quality thrillers like Ron Howard’s ‘Eden’ and George Miller’s ‘Three Thousand Years of Longing’ that reached Cannes Screening in 2022. Craig McMahon and Todd Fellman of Forte Corp Pictures are bankrolling ‘Resurface’ and David Conley is executive producing.
McMahon will be financing and projecting the project to Cannes with the filming planned at Melbourne, Australia. “There has to be room for stillness — moments of connection that remind the audience what’s at stake,” says Luketic on how he plans to elevate the movie and its atmosphere in his first thriller directorial.
“From the beginning, we knew this project demanded a director who could balance both scale and intimacy. Robert brings a rare blend of visual precision, emotional depth and technical command, and we’re incredibly excited to have him on board”, said McMahon on why Luketic was on board for the thriller with his additional expertise of being a trainer pilot will also be contributing to shaping the movie.
