Forza Horizon 6 Officially Confirmed for Japan: Release Date, Features, and PC Requirements Revealed

After years of rumours and endless fan speculation, Playground Games has finally confirmed what racing fans have wanted for a long time,  Forza Horizon 6 is officially heading to Japan.

The latest Developer Direct presentation gave players their first proper look at the upcoming open-world racer, showcasing everything from crowded Tokyo-inspired streets to winding mountain roads deep in the Japanese Alps. The reveal immediately became one of the biggest gaming talking points of the week, especially among longtime Horizon fans who have spent years asking for a Japan setting. But while the location reveal has generated massive excitement, the game’s PC requirements are also grabbing attention for a very different reason.

Japan Finally Becomes the Next Horizon Destination

For years, Japan was considered the dream location for the Horizon franchise. Its unique mix of neon-lit cities, scenic countryside, mountain passes, and legendary car culture made it an almost perfect fit for an open-world racing game. Now that dream is finally becoming reality.

During the official showcase, Playground Games described Forza Horizon 6 as the “most dense and vertical” world the studio has ever built. Early gameplay footage highlighted detailed urban environments inspired by Tokyo, high-speed alpine roads, cherry blossom-lined highways, and traditional countryside areas that appear far more alive than previous Horizon maps.

The new setting is expected to bring a stronger focus on technical driving, especially with mountain touge roads and tighter city racing routes becoming a major part of the experience.

Release Date and Platforms Confirmed

Forza Horizon 6 is scheduled to launch on May 19, 2026. Players who purchase the Premium Edition are expected to receive early access starting May 15. At launch, the game will arrive on PC and Xbox Series X/S, while a PlayStation 5 version is planned for a later release window. Playground Games also confirmed that the title will launch with more than 550 licensed vehicles, making it one of the largest car lineups in franchise history. The map itself is being described as the biggest and most vertically layered Horizon environment ever created, combining dense urban regions with countryside landscapes and snowy mountain zones in one seamless open world.

Forza Horizon 6 PC Requirements, An Upgrade From Horizon 5

Based on the official PC requirements, one can see that the latest Forza Horizon game is much more demanding than its predecessor. Minimum specs will require Windows 10 (22H2 version), Intel i5-8400, AMD Ryzen 5 1600 or better CPU, and 16 GB of RAM.For graphics, players will need at least an Nvidia GTX 1650, AMD RX 6500 XT, or Intel Arc A380 GPU. The game also requires DirectX 12 support and 110 GB of available SSD storage. Unlike Forza Horizon 5, SSD storage is no longer optional. That change alone signals how aggressively Playground Games is targeting current-generation hardware. Faster world streaming, larger environments, and more detailed assets appear to be central to the game’s design. Players still running older systems with 8 GB RAM or GPUs like the GTX 1060 may need upgrades before launch.

One of the clearest signs of the franchise moving forward is the decision to completely drop Xbox One support. By focusing entirely on newer hardware, Playground Games can push graphical fidelity and world complexity much further than before. Early footage already suggests major improvements in lighting, environmental detail, weather effects, reflections, and loading speeds. The denser city layouts and vertical map design also appear to create a more immersive driving experience compared to the wide-open roads seen in Forza Horizon 5.
