watch life in plastic is fantastic in ‘barbie’ teaser trailer
On Friday, December 16, the teaser trailer for the upcoming Barbie film was made available online, offering audiences their first look at the comic spin that Greta Gerwig would be bringing to the iconic fashion doll.
The teaser video starts out with a reference to the classic “2001: A Space Odyssey,” which features young girls playing with baby dolls in a desolate landscape.
The following is an excerpt from the narration: “There have been dolls ever since the dawn of time and ever since there was the first little girl who ever lived. However, the dolls were never anything other than baby dolls, even up to…”
After that, we see Margot Robbie’s version of Barbie, who is dressed in the original Barbie doll’s black-and-white striped bikini, standing out among the other young girls like a monolith. She takes off her sunglasses and nods with an understanding smile.
We also watch a montage of movies showcasing the technicolor world of Barbie, which includes an additional look at Ryan Gosling in his role as Barbie’s beau Ken, who is blond and tanned.
Greta directs Barbie, and she and Noah Baumbach are also responsible for the screenplay. In addition to Margot and Ryan, the cast also includes Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Ncuti Gatwa, Issa Rae, Hari Nef, Michael Cera, Emma Mackey, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, Emerald Fennell, Sharon Rooney, Scott Evans, Ana Cruz Kayne, Connor Swindells, Ritu Arya, Jamie Demetri
In July of 2023, the film Barbie is scheduled to be released in theaters.
