The legendary singer-songwriter attended the London premiere of The Devil Wears Prada musical on Sunday and shared his challenges with the audience. Elton John revealed that he has been struggling with his eyesight after contracting an infection. He also said that this difficulty had made it hard for him to enjoy his latest project.
“I haven’t been able to come to many previews because, as you know, I have lost my eyesight,” the 77-year-old artist said. “It’s hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it, and, boy, it sounded good tonight.”
Back in September John disclosed that an infection had left him with limited vision in one eye. On Instagram, he explained, “I am healing, but it’s a very slow process. It will take time before sight returns to the affected eye.”
John composed score for The Devil Wears Prada a musical adaptation of the 2006 hit movie about a young journalist navigating the high-stakes world of fashion magazines.
The London show at the Dominion Theatre stars Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestly the famous editor character played by Meryl Streep in the movie.
Designer Donatella Versace and former Vogue editor Anna Wintour also attended the gala event. This event raised money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
